Supportive Supervision for your success

LPC Supervision with Dr. Hill-Allen in Waco, Texas.

What is LPC Supervision?

Supervision is an influential process that occurs over time, in which the supervisor collaborates with supervisees to ensure the quality of clinical mental health care.

It is a formal agreement in which LPC Associates routinely share their professional experiences as a clinician with their supervisor to gain insight, education, support, mentorship, and guidance with the supervisee’s clinical caseload.

Clinical Supervision is also a requirement in the state of Texas for LPCs seeking independent practice of psychotherapy services. The state requirement is to ensure the ethical and best practices of newly licensed clinicians in the mental health industry.

What is an LPC Supervisor?

An LPC Supervisor in Texas is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been licensed with the state of Texas for at least 5 years. Supervisors are required to complete a 40-hour course to receive the state designation. In order to maintain the supervisory designation, the LPC Supervisory must complete continuing education courses specific to LPC Supervision every 2 years.

Effective supervisors observe, mentor, coach, evaluate, inspire, model, and create an atmosphere that promotes self-motivation, learning, and professional development. They serve associates in 5 key roles: educator, sponsor, coach, counselor, and director. Supervisors contribute to associates’ professional and personal growth.

Important Considerations

Selecting a supervisor is one of the most important decisions you will make while on your path to becoming a professional counselor. I would encourage you to do your due diligence in ensuring your potential supervisor has the experience and qualities you desire to guide you along what can be a confusing and overwhelming journey.

The supervisor/associate relationship is collaborative, and both parties have to believe it is beneficial to move forward. When considering working with an LPC Associate, I consider their theoretical background, previous practicum/internship experiences, education, and professional goals.

Things you should consider as the Associate:

  • Can my professional goals & interests be fulfilled under this supervisor?

  • What is the financial investment of supervision?

  • Are our professional values a match?

  • What is offered in the supervisory relationship?

  • Do our relational styles align?

Requirements

  • The State of Texas requires supervision 4 hours a month during the minimum of 18 months and 3,000 hours needed to obtain licensure. Hours can be obtained through both individual and group supervision.

  • Attend Group Supervision held on Wednesdays at 11 am.

  • $400 per month

My associates know they can contact me anytime with questions or concerns.

Supervision is also available for Masters Students enrolled in Practicum or Internship. Please submit your resume and your practicum/internship goals via email to admin@bhacounseling.co.
